The Board of Selectmen had a quick meeting on Tuesday to discuss the current town counsel, revisit a possible extra large trash bag idea, and catch up on town business.
The Town employs two legal counsels for advice. The labor counsel comments on town unions, contracts, and others while the general counsel covers the rest of the Town’s issues. The Board has had no issues with its labor counsel, yet has found that the general counsel needs multiple written and verbal requests before action is taken and completed. The general counsel causes delays in meetings and sometimes only gives “half” answers.
“When we’re paying someone to do this job, that’s not what we expect.” said Selectmen Alonzo. Selectman Bob Ebersole stated, and the Board agreed, that the finished product is very good. The Board decided it would be best to look into accepting new proposals for counsel in June when the current contract is up. Alonzo said he would look for a firm that could seem more invested in the job.
