Bos Approve Budget Transfer Requests
by Amanda Koeck

At their August 18 meeting, the Board of Selectmen approved budget transfer requests to close out Lunenburg’s fiscal year 2015, and also approved $88,750 worth of change orders for the new school project, and welcomed a new establishment to town by approving an all alcohol license for Zedas set to open around Labor Day on 1 Main St. at The Village.
The budget transfers, which were approved by the Finance Committee August 13 totaled $18,068 and covered additional expenses for a police officer on injury leave, miscellaneous other expenses for public safety, accrued vacation time for the outgoing Council on Aging Director, more Veterans’ benefits, and adjustments to the recycling program.
“We had a really good fiscal year 2015,” said Town Manager Kerry Speidel. According to Speidel, the town collected $245,000 more in revenue than anticipated, and even collected 98.77 percent of real estate taxes. “That’s the highest collection rate we’ve seen for a number years,” Speidel said.
