Will the Library be freed of its budgetary bindings?

Author and poet, J. A. Langford once wrote, “The only true equalizers in the world are books; the only treasure-house open to all comers is a library…”
At a time when a tumultuous economy has been belaboring the backs of state, town and individual, no such words could ever be truer.
The Lunenburg Public Library has, over the last five years, seen an increase in circulation, visitations and public need.
According to numbers compiled by Library Director Amy Sadkin, when the new Library opened in 2005 circulation increased 17 percent that year. It has since increased 25 percent. Meeting room usage has increased over 80 percent and Library programs have grown over 30 percent.
Likewise, the library’s municipal budget has also grown to comply with these demands. In 2005, the municipal budget was just under $200,000. In 2009 the budget was set at $329,867.
