Voters pass $1.1M DPW Renovation Project

During a four-hour march through the Town Meeting Warrant last Saturday, voters appeared to have their minds set on spending money in FY’11.
After an informative presentation by DPW Director Jack Rodriquenz and facility study chair Dave MacDonald voters unanimously passed Article 3 requesting $1,100,000 to renovate the 40-year-old Department of Public Works (DPW) facility located on Chase Road.
DPW Director Jack Rodriquenz explained to the voters that he has gone to the Capital Planning Committee for the past four years only to be turned away due to lack of funding.
He explained that the building was adequate in1970, but does not meet today’s building codes. He also noted that in the last few decades, other town departments - Parks, Cemetery and now Sewer Departments - have been centralized to the DPW building.
Rodriquenz noted that the Cemetery building on Holman Street is a "run-down work shed … citizens deserve more. In the proposed renovation, we will have a private room to conduct cemetery business.”
