United Solutions has been “proudly” making plastic products in the United States since 1919 and soon they will be opening a distribution and storage facility on Summer Street.

    “This is new … well, it is and it isn’t new,” Planning Director Marion Benson told the Board Monday night. “Dietrich Industries, who is there now, is leaving this area.”

    Dietrich Industries is a national company that makes metal framing material for commercial buildings. It was in business at 198 Summer St. since 1992 where it employed approximately 80 people. The commercial facility sits on 11.06 acres; 4.83 acres are in Lunenburg and 6.23 in Leominster.

    United Solutions started in Leominster as United Comb and Novelty Company until it entered the plastics market in 1986 when it then changed its name to United Plastics. In  2006 it became United Solutions and currently has manufacturing facilities in Leominster, Sardis, Miss., and Gilbert, Ariz.

    Benson said she thinks United Solutions, which is a leading supplier of plastic housewares, paint, office and hardware products, will have 10 employees at the Summer Street location.

    “They are going to start with storage,” Benson said. “They may move office people over too.”
