United Solutions nearer to Summer Street opening

With no one against, and everyone for, the Planning Board’s public hearing Monday regarding the opening of a distribution and storage facility on Summer Street was done within 15 minutes.

 

The outcome: United Solutions, aka United Comb and Novelty Company, is one step closer to opening at the old Dietrich Industries location at 198 Summer St. The commercial facility sits on 11.06 acres; 4.83 acres are in Lunenburg and 6.23 in Leominster. The building is 65,800 square feet.

 

Edward Zephir, president of United Solutions, was at the hearing. He said his grandfather started the business in 1919.

 

“What we are looking to do, with your [Planning Board] permission, is to warehouse in Lunenburg,” Zephir explained. “And use the rail.”
United Solutions will be using the railroad system to receive raw material (plastic pellets) that will be unloaded from railcars and then transported to its Leominster manufacturing facility. The finished product will then return to Lunenburg for storage.

 

“Our plant in Leominster can’t get rail service,” Zephir said. “We have been looking for some time.”
