A Townsend man was seriously injured in a motor vehicle accident early Monday morning, according to Lunenburg police.
Ambulance and emergency crews responded to a report of an accident at approximately 1:15 a.m. Monday morning at 68 Leominster Road where a car hit a pole and snapped it in half, according to Lt. James Marino.
Lt. Marino added that emergency crews had to use “the jaws of life” to get the driver out of the vehicle.
Bryan Rittgers, 21, of Townsend, was originally transferred to HealthAlliance Hospital in Leominster, but a hospital official confirmed Tuesday that he was later transferred to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester.
A hospital spokeswoman reported Tuesday that Rittgers was discharged from the hospital.
Lt. Marino said the accident is still under investigation and police still do not know the cause.
