Town Meeting promises to Rock and Roll

At least two major combustible topics have emerged from the Town Warrant, which was mailed to all residents last week.
Although financial matters are the crux of what may be a fiery Town Meeting next Saturday at in the Lunenburg High School auditorium, the future of Lunenburg’s district Lunenburg is at stake.
Articles 23 and 24 propose to change the zoning of the downtown Lunenburg area from Limited Business Residential to Retail Commercial. Although the intent of the article is to give Trudie’s Treats the ability to “expand and grow the business in the future” and to help Khan Mohiuddin establish a coffee shop an the old Chief’s house.
Last week at the Planning Board Meeting, the potential change was discussed. Mohiuddin, owner of the businesses Hadwen Park Market and High Farm Variety located at 1 Main Street, approached the Planning Board last week because he wants to establish a coffee shop at the 950 Massachusetts Avenue location, a building he bought from the town. By changing the zoning, many forms of agricultural and community organizations could change the landscape of Lunenburg forever. Tom Mulholland, resident of 2 Leominster Road, made many points including the run down condition of School Street which abuts the 950 Mass Ave location.
Mulholland positioned his remarks by referring to a report done in 1987 which concluded that the drainage on School Street was limited. The issue (Article 23) will be hotly debated.
