There was good news and there was bad news for the Lunenburg football team Friday night.
The good news was they showed they can hang with a powerful team. Lunenburg gave a strong Littleton squad all it could handle for three quarters. The bad news - with just 11 minutes left to play the visiting Tigers used a strong fourth quarter to pull away and head back home with a 27-7 win.
“We played [the Tigers] tough. I don't think the score reflected how close this game was.” said Lunenburg Head Coach Steve Boone, whose team falls to 0-2 overall and travel to Clinton tonight [September 21]. “We were better than we were last week and we're looking to improve every game.”
The Knights dropped a 38-12 decision to host West Boylston in week one of the season.
Littleton, who blew out Clinton 45-20 in week one, improved to 2-0.
The Tigers clawed away with the only points of the first quarter when Littleton quarterback Alex McLaughlin showed his mobility and called his own number, running into the end zone from three yards out to give the guests a 6-0 lead with 4:15 remaining. Ryan Sullivan licked the extra point.

Littleton Head Coach Matt Lynn applauded his quarterback’s skill.
“Alex McLaughlin is probably the most complete football player we’ve ever had here. We don’t play him on defense because he’s too valuable to us.”
McLaughlin is currently second in passing yards in Central Massachusetts with 598 yards through the first two games of the season. He has also tossed five touchdown passes. On Friday the Lunenburg defense, led by players like Matt Benoit, Greg Abare, Jeremy Nash and Tom Wagner contained the explosive playmaker for much of the contest and limited him to 130 yards passing.
