The ‘Once Upon A Time’ of a happy journalist

I like to consider myself one of the lucky people. I enjoy my job. I enjoy reading and I enjoy writing. I enjoy learning new things and meeting new people. I enjoy using my creativity to design a product that is as visually stimulating as it is informative. And I enjoy helping people.
You’d think, with everything put into perspective, that I must have always known I wanted a career in journalism.
Such is not the case.
I did not graduate with a degree in journalism. I was not involved with my college newspaper. I was never particularly investigative, digging for hard facts to disprove this or expose that. I was never very outgoing either – I am horribly shy and have a distinct love/hate relationship with the telephone (and the love part is only a recent development with the advent of the text message). Truth be told, I didn’t even read that many newspapers (don’t judge, I’m a Gen Y baby, I got my news on the World Wide Web).
Doesn’t really sound like the makings of a modern day Lois Lane does it? Would it surprise you if I told you some of the shyest people I’ve ever met were also reporters?
