Road management plan for the town evaluates road conditions and prioritizes needs

Public Works Director Jack Rodriquenz is set to present a final report in a couple weeks on the conditions of the roads in town, which he estimates Lunenburg “needs to more than double its current funding” to maintain the roads in keeping them from deteriorating.
In an interview with The Lunenburg Ledger, Rodriquenz said, “The comprehensive Pavement Management Plan” categorizes each road/street by functional class; main, secondary main, collector and local.”
Each road is then weighted accordingly, said Rodriquenz. The plan goes on to prioritize which roads need to be addressed first.
“Every road is measured (length and width) and rated according to visible defects,” said Rodriquenz. “The priority condition along with an estimated cost to repair is then listed.”
While not ready to specify all the roads in need of repair, Rodriquenz said Lancaster Avenue, Route 13 and New West Townsend Road are some roads listed that are in need of repair, especially as they are some of the busiest roads traveled on.
