Lunenburg falls to Bromfield 38-27 Monday night
By Michael James LeClair
The Lunenburg boys’ basketball team will have to wait at least one more night to qualify for the Central Mass. district tournament after falling to host Bromfield on Monday night 38 –37.
The Blue Knights fell to 9-4 overall on the season with the loss while the Trojans (11-3) extend their winning streak to 10 straight games.
“It was a tough way for this one to finish up, there really isn’t much more I can say about it right now,” said Lunenburg head coach John Economo after Monday’s loss. “We were pitiful in the second half. We struggled offensively the entire game.”
The Blue Knights and Trojans split the season series as each team one once. Back on December 19 in Lunenburg, the Blue Knights pulled out a 63-58 win over Bromfield.
“They’re a good basketball team and we played them tough twice,” said Economo of the Trojans. “They’re playing the same teams as us and are getting the same type of wins. It was a good game. I thought it would be high scoring though.”
The Lunenburg offense was paced by senior captain Josh Trainque with 13 points. Fellow classmate and captain Ryan Corcoran added 12 points. The two Blue Knights were the only players to hit double figures for the visitors. Greg Abare and Nijal Hamberg each scored three points.
