The Lunenburg Turkey Hill Family Lions Club and the Lunenburg Firefighters Association, Inc. will again co-sponsor the Annual Lunenburg Bonfire Fair.
A Lunenburg tradition for over forty years, this year’s bonfire fair will be held on Saturday, August 14 beginning at 4 p.m. on the grounds of Lunenburg High School. In the event of rain, it would be postponed until Sunday, August 15.
Holding the fair in August is a departure from the long tradition of holding the bonfire on July 3. Rain forced the change last year but it proved to be a better date with record crowds attending the event. Again this year, the fair will be held field in front of Lunenburg High School on Massachusetts Avenue through the cooperation from the Lunenburg School Department.
The partnership between the Lions Club and the Firefighters Association will provide the necessary manpower needed to staff the various food and game booths as well as the construction of the bonfire structure from discarded wooden pallets. Proceeds from the event will benefit both organizations charities.
Musical entertainment will be provided on stage throughout the evening and fairgoers are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs.
The annual event draws well over 2000 people each year.
“Our community event is family oriented and, with the struggling economy, we make a special effort to keep the food and game prices low so everyone can enjoy this unique celebration without having to spend a lot of money” said David Clement member of the Lions Club.
A variety of food concession booths manned by volunteers will offer an array of food items priced affordably including the famous Home Baked Goods and Coffee Booth. The event will feature game booths, raffle, moonwalk, prior to lighting the bonfire at 10 p.m.
