LHS hopes to increase AP class enrollment

During a recent meeting of the Lunenburg School Committee, Superintendent Loxi-Jo Calmes informed the committee that Lunenburg High School was in a finalist position to receive an Advanced Placement Grant.
Lunenburg applied for an Advanced Placement (AP) Grant from the Massachusetts Mathematics and Science Advisory Council in October. Calmes said officials responsible for awarding the grants, have “been on site and visited with staff” in the district.
“We’re very excited to be in this finalist position,” Calmes said.
AP Grants provide for teacher training and student support, and would begin next year if enacted. Lunenburg currently offers AP courses in English language arts, U.S. history, art, calculus, and biology, among others.
Calmes said if Lunenburg were to receive the grant, LHS would use the funding to increase enrollment in these courses 50 percent.
