JV Knights fall 9-3 to Narragansett Regional during homefield gameplay

The Lunenburg High junior varsity softball team has shown drastic improvement since the start of the season. However, they had their hands full against the best JV team in the league on Monday afternoon. Narragansett Regional combined some solid work in the circle with key hitting to outpace the Lady Blue Knights in a 9-3 victory at Marshall Park.

“(Narragansett) is probably the best team that we’ve seen all season,” Lunenburg junior varsity head coach Josh Romano said. “They beat us twenty-one to nothing in the first game, so in four weeks this team has come a long way. They played great today and I’m really pleased with how they’ve done. If you can go seven innings against a team like this and not get mercied, that’s great and shows how much work the girls have put in this season.”

It was a bit of a tough start to the season for the Blue Knights, as they struggled out of the gate posting three straight losses. But Lunenburg has found its stride as of late, rebounding with four straight wins, heading into the matchup with Narragansett. The loss snaps the winning streak, however their record moves to a respectable 4-4.

“Our bats have come to life,” Romano said. “We worked on our hitting, during the vacation week. The girls have taken a much better approach to the plate, they know how to swing the bat with two strikes. They’ve learned how to judge to strike zone much better, so we’re walking more and making the pitchers throw more pitches.”

The Warriors JV has been close to perfect this season, as they currently sit at a record of 12-1.
