John P. Geary, Jr., 68 of Greenville, SC, formerly of Fitchburg, died Tuesday, Aug. 10 in Mauldin, SC.

        He was born in Fitchburg, on Sept. 24, 1941, a son of the late John P., Sr. and Irene (Bourgeois) Geary.  He graduated from Fitchburg High School in 1960 and had lived in Fitchburg for most of his life before moving to Maine in 2001 and then to Florida in 2004.

        John worked several years at New England Power in Sterling and also served in the U.S. Army Reserves for 40 years retiring as a Command Sergeant Major.    

    He leaves two daughters, Susan Ayres and her husband Robert of Simpsonville, SC and Patty Geary of Lunenburg; five grandchildren, Brandon and Dustyn both of Lunenburg; Dillon of Leominster, Devon of Brazil and Leeann of South Carolina.

    A graveside service with full military honors was held on Saturday, Aug. 14, at 10 a.m. in St. Bernard’s Cemetery, Fitchburg.  Calling hours were held on Friday, Aug. 13, from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Smith-Mallahy-Masciarelli Funeral Home, 243 Water St., Fitchburg.
