On Tuesday night, August 24, volunteers gathered in the basement of St. Boniface Parish to plan the fourth annual St. Boniface Italian Festival and Fair.
The meeting started with an opening prayer and then the volunteers quickly got down to business. Item by item, committee chairs discussed food prep, serving, publicity, games, raffles, donations, setup and parking. The committee chairs present at the meeting where just a small representation of the many volunteers it takes to run the fair.
Once again, Ciro Montemurro will lend his expertise in restaurant management in Boston’s North End and as a caterer to create the authentic Italian food that people who have attended the fair rave about. Montemurro is the son of Italian immigrants from Foggia Mattera, a province of Italy, where people are heard to say “a chi è convinto che a tavola non si invecchi” or “If you know how to eat well, you'll never grow old”. He will add two new entrees to the menu, chicken piccata, and chicken marsala. He will also add sfogliatelle to the dessert menu.
The menu will still include such favorites such as pasta with meatballs and lasagna for which the fair has already become famous.
Due to last year’s overwhelming turnout, additional parking will be available at Marshal Park, adjacent to the fair, with easy access by lighted path.
The fair will take place on Friday, Sept. 17, 4 to 10 p.m., at St. Boniface Parish, 817 Mass. Ave. in Lunenburg. Admission to the fair is free.
