The project to install a photovoltaic solar panel on the roof of Turkey Hill Middle School is one step closer to beginning as The Green Energy Task Force is in final negotiations with Broadway Electric Company, as the contracts have been sent out.
Once the contracts are signed, work will begin tentatively begin 30 days later, according to John Londa, director of facilities and grounds for the Lunenburg School District.
The 102-kilowatt solar array will have an output of 114,000 kilowatt hours per year, according to Londa.
Lunenburg will be entering into a long-term contract with the electric company for 15 years, Londa said.
This means that the Boston-based electric company will own the solar panel while the town will buy all the electricity it generates. According to Londa, Electricity will cost the town approximately 7.5 cents per kilowatt-hour.
