Gladys H. VanHorne, 91

    Gladys H. (Cameron) VanHorne, 91, of Lunenburg, died Saturday, Jan. 16, in her home, surrounded by her family.


            Gladys was born in Medford, on Oct. 10, 1918, a daughter of the late John and Nellie (Manchester) Cameron.  She grew up in Saugus graduating from Saugus High School in 1936, and then received her bachelor degree in education from Salem State Teachers College in 1940.


            Shortly after that she moved to Lunenburg and worked as a telephone operator during WWII.  She later taught school for several years at the T.C. Passios Elementary School.  Gladys was an active member of the United Parish of Lunenburg where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir.  She was also a member of the Eagle House Senior Center.


            She leaves a son, Peter J. VanHorne of Fitchburg; two granddaughters, Wendy M. Barry of Leominster and Leeann E. Nichols of Clinton; four great-grandchildren, Cameron W. Barry, Julius A. Ayala, Jayla B. Ayala and Dylan R. Barry.  She is predeceased by her husband, Walter H. VanHorne; a brother, James Cameron; two sisters, Helen Reynolds and Miriam Tillmans and a granddaughter, Kimberly VanHorne.


            A memorial service was held on Thursday, Jan. 21, at 11 a.m. in the United Parish of Lunenburg on Main Street.


    Burial will be in the spring in the Puritan Lawn Cemetery in Peabody.

         There were no calling hours.  


    In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the United Parish of Lunenburg, 39 Main St., Lunenburg, MA 01462. The Sawyer-Miller-Masciarelli Funeral Home, 763 Massachusetts Ave., is directing the funeral arrangements.
