FY ‘11 School budget to spread damage evenly

The Lunenburg School Committee met last Wednesday, and the shortened agenda - cut because of that morning’s snow storm - centered on the budget for the 2011 fiscal year.

 

“We’re making a lot of adjustments,” said Superintendent Loxi-Jo Calmes."

 

“We cannot preserve everything. We can’t keep all the services we provide to our students. There’s not enough money to do that,” Calmes said.

 

Calmes noted that the Lunenburg school system is one of many across the state facing high impact budget cuts and in creating a preliminary budget for FY ‘11, the Superintendent said she tried to, “spread the impact.”

 

“Instead of completely cutting off a program, it makes more sense to cut a little from everywhere,” Calmes said.
