The Committee also discussed its budget requests for the next school year.
LHS Principal Michael Barney introduced the school’s proposed budget for the 2012 fiscal year.
Costs that have increased include graduation expenses, a $1,740 increase from last year; $4,000 for new furniture to include library tables and a heavy-duty shredder; science supplies went up $1,971.13 for replacing electronic scales; music equipment costs went up $6,390 due to repairing and replacing large, outdated instruments; and library audio/visual supplies increased $3,965 for a handheld wireless scanner and whiteboard. The school is also purchasing 26 mobile technology carts for various departments.
Committee member Gregory Berthiaume questioned, “Whether that’s the right technology to be buying right now.” Barney insisted that these technology carts are successful teaching aids, and are still relevant teaching tools.
