John's Watch & Jewelry, of 7 Tilton Ave. off of Rt. 2A, sells 14 karat gold jewelry, silver, diamonds, gemstones, and estate pieces. They also buy old or unwanted items. The owner, John Lynch, is a jeweler and certified watchmaker, and is able to make items to fit customer’s specifications. John’s Watch and Jeweler’s has been operating in Lunenburg for 13 years.
“We’re right down the street from Wall Mart. So it’s convenient for people to drop things off and come back,” said Lynch.
Besides sales John's Watch & Jewelry also does repairs. Whether it is a broken watch or a broken necklace they can fix it. They are also capable of custom orders, and engraving. Almost everything is made onsite and many are done while you wait.
“The thing I do the most is probably antique watches, or any kind of watch really,” said Lynch.
It was Lynch’s love for pocket watches that got him into this business.
“I started collecting pocket watches and the guy I brought them to [to be fixed] was backed up and suggested I get into the field,” said Lynch.
He started collecting when he was in his 20s by going to flea markets, and now has hundreds in his collection.
“I started with pocket watches but now [I collect] pretty much anything,” said Lynch.
He got his training at the Bulova School, and has worked doing repairs in a jewelry store in Gardner as well as about a dozen stores around this area.
Lynch also sells class rings, though he does not make them onsite as he does the rest of his items. He ships them out to Art Carved.
In July, Lynch will celebrate his 23rd anniversary as a watchmaker.
“This July it will be 23 years, well 23 years for watches. I became a jeweler shortly after,” said Lynch.
Lynch has been married for 20 years. He and his family have lived in Lunenburg their whole lives. Lynch himself is a Lunenburg High School alumnus. Lynch has three daughters. The couples two youngest are involved in the Daisies and in Brownies.
John’s Watch and Jewelry is open Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. They are closed on Sunday s and Mondays.
