Completion and dedication of memorial gate tentatively set for 9/11

Working on the 89th floor of the South Tower of the World Trade Center, Kevin Szocik was trying to exit the building on Sept. 11, 2001 when the planes hit the towers.
The 92’ graduate of Lunenburg High School and vice president of equity and research at the investment bank, Keefe, Bruyette & Woods, was talking on the phone with his family, eagerly trying to find a way out to safety.
The last thing his family heard was the phone cutting out and then dead silence - a silence no one wants to experience.
Szocik played football at Lunenburg High School and was quarterback, a tri-captain and league all-star his senior year, according to Jeremy Kullman, a longtime friend if Szocik’s.
After graduating high school he went to prep school at Worcester Academy for a year and then received a scholarship at Fordham University in Bronx, NY. He received a degree in business administration and then went to work at Keefe, Bruyette & Woods.
Szocik, 27, who died on Sept. 11, almost nine years ago, would have been 36 today.
Kullman, who knew Szocik since kindergarten, said “he misses everything about his friend.
He was a great guy, … more concerned with making others happy,” said Kullman. “On his wedding weekend, it was his big day, [but] he was always concerned that we were having fun.”
Kullman added of Szocik: “We were like brothers.”
