This week’s Business of the Week is Gac Homes, Inc.of Lunenburg.
A mechanical engineer by trade, George Carpenter left a 15 year engineering career in the early 1980s to create Gac Homes, Inc., a family operated construction company.
Since then he has built over 200 homes in the surrounding towns of Groton, Pepperell, Townsend, Shirley, Ayer, Lunenburg, Clinton and Lancaster.
His ability for creating his own designs and improving those of others quickly gained him an excellent reputation among buyers, real estate agents and even his competition.
This reputation did not go unnoticed by landowners. They were soon willing to sell him their land usually because they were still living on a portion of the property and cared about what was to be built next to their residence.
Carpenter’s motto has always been: ”let’s build a home as if we were going to live in it ourselves”.
Also as the developer and builder of several subdivisions he has built his own primary residence as part of the subdivision, which is a testament to the quality of homes he has built.
In order to gain an edge on the competition in this down economy, Carpenter decided in 2007 to investigate “Energy Star Home Building”. Homes that earn the Energy Star rating are significantly more energy efficient than standard homes with a variety of features such as: tight construction and ductwork, cellulose insulation, efficient heating and cooling equipment, high performance windows and energy star appliances and lighting.
It costs more to build an Energy Star home but the benefits are overwhelming to the home owner with significantly less fuel and electric bills.
In addition to building new homes Carpenter has also completed many Home Improvement projects. Projects ranging from finished basements, living space over garages, porch conversions to living space, new additions and whole house “gutting” and remodeling.
“I can help clients clarify their ideas, give them my ideas and suggestions on the best, most creative use of space. My expertise is taking clients’ ideas along with my suggestions and preparing conceptual plans for their review, modifying them as we progress and finally preparing detailed construction plans for permitting. If a client desires, I can take these plans and provide pricing, subcontracting and construction or the client can take my finished plans and proceed on their own,” said Carpenter.
Carpenter has a portfolio of “before and after” photos and plans provided to past clients.
Carpenter said, “If you are thinking of a Home Improvement project and wish to work with a seasoned professional, give him a call at (978) 582-5515, (978) 618-8943 (cell) or e-mail: gachomes@verizon.net.”
