After losing nine seniors from last year’s squad, the Blue Knights have a lot of newcomers at the varsity level. What the team lacks in experience, it makes up for in talent.
“We lost nine seniors from last year’s team, seven of which were starters,” Lunenburg head coach Bob Robuccio said. “So we’re basically starting from scratch. We’re young and we don’t have a lot of experience, but that experience comes from playing games like this (Monday’s 6-5 win over Narragansett).”
“We have a lot of talent, a lot of young talent. We just don’t have the varsity experience, we’ve got baseball experience, but there’s a difference between playing Babe Ruth and AAU and playing high school ball. I think once we keep playing, we’ll be alright,” Robuccio said.
Lunenburg is off to a 3-3 (1-0 Mid Wach C) start which is on pace to reach the post season.
“The goal always is to go at least .500 and get into the districts, that’s our first goal,” Robuccio said. “Second goal is to win the league title, and the third is to go as far as we can during districts.”
The Blue Knights will look for leadership from seasoned veteran Mike Sullender who is a three-year starter and bats third in the lineup.
