Anna Cecelia Cameron, 86, of Northfield Road, Lunenburg, passed away February 25, 2010, after a brief illness.
She was born June 17, 1923, in Bronx, New York, the daughter of Joseph and Cecelia (Essig) Handel.
She was married first to Otto M. Riedl. Her second husband, Robert McCall Cameron, passed away in 1972.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, John Handel, of North Miami Beach, Florida, and a sister, Edith Marthe, of White Plains, New York. A granddaughter, Deborah Rhoten, of Lunenburg, died in 1992.
Anna is survived by her daughter, Barbara and son-in-law Douglas Fleming, with whom she had made her home since 1997. Friends and family often called them “The Three Amigos”.
Before moving to Massachusetts, Anna lived in Ypsilanti, Michigan, where she was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church. Before retiring in 1986, she worked at Hoover/NSK in Ann Arbor.
Anna enjoyed the animals and birds that were frequent visitors to her home. She was an avid reader, of mystery stories, and was grateful to the community of Lunenburg for such a wonderful library. Anna appreciated the services provided by the Eagle House, especially the Senior Van that enabled her to make and meet with friends.
Anna leaves a grandson, Douglas Rhoten and his wife Kristin Everett, and their children Katharine and Spencer Rhoten, all of Eau Claire, Wisconsin.
Step grandchildren include Douglas Fleming, Jr. of Greensboro, North Carolina, and Sarah Kelly and her husband Jeffrey, and their children Madeline, Ethan, Benjamin, and Frances, of Dover-Foxcroft, Maine.
She leaves a niece, Carol Wangler, of New Rochelle, New York, and nephews Richard Handel of Whitesboro, New York, and John Handel of Ocala, Florida.
Anna and her family thank her medical team at U-Mass Medical, and the nurses and staff of 6th Floor Surgical West. The family extends their gratitude to the Rose Monahan Hospice for providing comfort and care during her final days.
There are no calling hours. A memorial service will be held for family and friends later in the spring. Burial will be in North Cemetery, Lunenburg. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Road, Fitchburg.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Anna’s name to the Rose Monahan Hospice, 10 Judith Road, Worcester, MA 01602.
