It’s been a season filled with accolades for the Lunenburg High girls track team.
The Blue Knights captured the Mid-Wach C regular season crown, the Mid-Wach C League Meet title, the District E Division II Championship, placed sixth in the MIAA State Division IV Meet, and a handful of athletes (underlined below) have qualified and have been gearing up for today’s State All-Class Indoor Track Meet.
“I knew that we had a great chance of reaching some of those accomplishments coming into the season,” Lunenburg Head Coach Steve Kyajohnian said. “We lost a few kids from last year, but I knew this year’s seniors were pretty strong. Some of the young kids stepped up and we had great senior leadership, and we had a lot of great accomplishments because of that.”
Last Friday the Blue Knights scored 22 points to finish insixth place in the MIAA State Division IV Meet behind, Hamilton-Wenham (40 points), Bromfield (29), Weston (28), Seekonk (25), and Uxbridge (24).
The top performance for Lunenburg came from junior shot putter Brittney Green, who has been a dominating presence for the Blue Knights in the throwing circle all season, as she finished second in Division 4 with a hurl of 34’02.25”. Green has also claimed first place in the District E Championship (32’07.5”) and captured the top spot in the Mid Wach C League Meet (35’10”) in the shot put. Green may stand the best chance for scoring points in today’s All-Class Meet.
