OBITUARIES
David M. Shea, 67, a longtime Lunenburg resident, died Saturday, August 8, at Brigham & Women’s Hospital, in Boston, with his wife and family by his bedside, after a courageous battle that he faced with fortitude and love of life.
He leaves his wife of 44 years, Linda L. (Loring) Shea; one son, U.S. Army Captain David S. Shea, serving in Qatar; two daughters, Kendra Nawrocki and her husband Timothy, of Hudson, NH and Dr. Alexa Shea of Somerville, MA. He was predeceased by a brother, Timothy J. Shea III of Fitchburg in 2010.
Mr. Shea was an Atmospheric Scientist with AECOM Co., an environmental consulting company in Chelmsford, MA for 37 years. He also worked in the same capacity in Puerto Rico and Uganda.
David was a passionate golfer who enjoyed playing as well as organizing an annual golf tournament. Fishing and boating was another love. He was a member of St. Boniface Parish in Lunenburg. He was an original founder of the Lunenburg Recycling Commission, and served on the Lunenburg Board of Health for 30 years. He was a soccer coach in Lunenburg and a High School soccer referee for many years.
David was known for his great sense of humor, and his unending energy. He seemed to know everyone and was referred to many times as the Mayor of Lunenburg. He was an adoring and proud father of his children.
He was a 1966 graduate of Philips Academy in Exeter, NH, received a Bachelor of Art degree in Sociology from Colby College and a Master’s degree in Atmospheric Science from the University of Wyoming.
He was born in Bronxville, NY, on June 29, 1948, a son of the late Timothy J. Shea Jr., and Mary F. (Foley) Shea.
David’s Funeral was celebrated on Wednesday, August 12, in St. Boniface Church, 817 Mass Ave., Lunenburg. Burial will follow in South Cemetery, Lunenburg. There are no calling hours.
